Golden: “we’ve become a laughingstock.” Spitz gathers belongings, leaves NY $100 on the nightstand.

Bay Ridge’s own State Senator Marty Golden sought to restore a sense of order and dignity to Albany amid the circus-like atmosphere surrounding Governor Spitzer’s extracurricular activities, telling the associated press:

“The trust of the people has been violated and we’ve become a laughingstock… It has the potential ability of throwing us into a major crisis, but we won’t let it happen.”

Spitzer well step down, with an announcement at 11:30 this morning – effective Monday.

Leaving the lame-duck Gov enough time to shred hookers… errr… documents.

Spitzer’s political reputation as a hard-line reformer, the “Sheriff of Wall Street,” now totally eclipsed by his predilection for high-risk sexual behavior – as indiscriminate as using a hole punched threw the wall of a Port Authority mens – was widely believed to take him from Albany to Washington.

A prospect that analysts now believe is unlikely, as Spitzer fends off prosecution, disbarment and probably divorce.

It’s reported today that the Sheriff of Wall Street, turned Sheriff of ‘Naughty-Land,’ has been spending as much as 80K dollars on the Michelin rated loins of women like ‘Kristen’- from Washington all the way down to the Florida panhandle – for just about a decade.

With life looking a little lonely for Governor Spitzer, the one-time Presidential hopeful may probably look to shed the hired PR guns, legal eagles, and learn a little something about being an abrasive, hard-nosed cooze-hound from a guy who can teach him how to not only be accepted – but run on that ticket and win – French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Sarkozy wields much of the power and privilege Spitzer mistakingly thought he did: such as limited executive oversight, the ability to dissolve government at will, declaring nuclear war virtually on his own accord – not to mention being desired by women, famous, promiscuous, charismatic and abusive – while adored for all of it.

As opposed to Eliot; who, despite coming from power and privilege, was ultimately turned in by the same federal bureaucracy he used to ride his way into Albany, by carelessly replenishing his “slut-fund” – funneling 10’s of thousands to shell companies already under investigation by the FBI – whom he tipped off in the first place, to cover his own DNA stained trail.

To add insult to injury: the Eliot Spitzer fan-club presently doing time for the white-collar crimes ‘upstate,’ will likely pounce on the Governor’s own careless, amateur and criminal fiscal indiscretions to overturn their own convictions.

In Treatment: help save the Committee to Save the Green Church

The ‘Save the Green Church’ ensemble continues to astound onlookers with their remarkable acumen for Public Relations and rational thought, with yet another barn-burner of a letter to the Editor of the Brooklyn Paper.
Helen Maalik introduces herself as not a “church-going person” – but someone she’s sure “many people think should be saved.”

She finds it “ironic” that she’s trying to save the Church, but the Church isn’t trying to save her.

Yet, despite her rather conflicted feelings about, well… life…. she still stands outside the Bay Ridge United Methodist Church with a sign, chanting “Save the Green Church” – stopping strangers to tell them “why we need to save this church.

Which, if we go by Helen’s opening statement, the whole reason we evidently “need” to to save the Green Church – is for Helen Maalek.

Here’s Helen’s entire letter, confirming her reservation at the nut-house….

Save Green Church

To the editor,

I’m not a church-going person. I’m sure many people probably think I should be so I can find God and be “saved.”

Yet on Feb. 16, I went to church — the Bay Ridge United Methodist Church on Ovington and Fourth avenues in Bay Ridge. I stood outside with a sign and chanted “Save the Green Church.” I stopped strangers to tell them that we need to save this church (“More ‘Green’ to be torn down,” Feb. 9).

I found it ironic that the congregation isn’t trying to save me, yet I am trying to save it. The church has sold out to a developer, who wants to tear down a building on the National Registrar of Historic Places and put up condos.

I’ve lived in Bay Ridge for over 30 years. I walk its streets and admire its grand Victorian homes, with their turrets and columned porches. I gaze at the rows of townhouses made of brick, limestone or brownstone, with their original cornices and railings and imagine the interiors with pocket doors and moldings.

I also stumble upon construction sites of recently demolished homes and cringe at the thought of what will replace them: non-descript brick or stucco buildings with lifeless facades.

And I always think, “What a shame.”

What will we have left if the Green Church is demolished? A fleeting memory of what once stood there. But we don’t need memories; we need that church preserved as a reverence of this neighborhood’s past and as a hope for the future. Save the Green Church.

the big story: Spitzer’s busted nut trumps Bay Ridge’s nutty super

Bay Ridge celeb-super and overnight publicity-whore, Richard Martin, was knocked clean from his tabloid perch today, as he was no match for the very ‘real’ whoring of New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer, who admitted (in so many words) to having been a client of a recently foiled international prostitution ring – Emperor VIP Club.

Spitzer, better known to the whores of Emperor VIP as Client 9, reportedly paid up to $5500 dollars for full GFE with an escort named “Kristen,” as recently as February 13th, at Washington DC’s ritzy Mayflower Hotel.

Kristen was warned by her Emperors Club handlers, en route to her tryst with Spitzer, that “Client 9″ might make requests of prostitutes “[she] might not think were safe.

For all you sex-fans, wiki describes unsafe sex as:

  • the practice of sex without protection from STDs
  • the practice of sex without protection from pregnancy

Safe sex practices became prominent in the late 1980s as a result of the AIDS epidemic.

Interestingly, in 2002, Spitzer’s office issued subpoenas to 24 non-profit crisis pregnancy centers that sought to dissuade women from having abortions… Spitzer’s office contended that the centers used deceptive advertising and were practicing medicine without a license.

It’s since been confirmed by the Associated Press that it was Spitzer’s preference to not wear a condom in his meetings with Kristen…

But Kristen, according to court papers, was ready for super-freaky Spitzer:

I have a way of dealing with that…. I’d be like, ‘Listen, dude, you really want the sex?’… You know what I mean,” said Kristen.

Such is the life of misunderstood genius; Governor Spitzer, much like our own Richard Martin, has gained something of a reputation for being “difficult,” that is until the Governor found his co-equal in the many erogenous orifices of the $4300 Hooker with the Heart of Gold, who said she ‘liked’ the Governor, and did not think him difficult:

I’m here for a purpose… I know what my purpose is… I’m not a moron…so maybe that’s why girls maybe think he’s difficult… let’s not get things twisted

For those of you who may not remember:

Richard Martin is an eccentric Bay Ridge building superintendent who gained overnight notoriety for writing colorful letters to his building tenants calling them “stupid, retarded sissys” for being less than cooperative in their garbage disposal habits.

Spitzer is an Ivy League educated son of wealthy New York Real Estate magnets, married with three daughters, our 54th Governor, and evidently has an insatiable appetite for ‘unprotected‘ sex with high priced prostitutes – possibly in the butt.

parents march on Verizon cell store, employees baffled

Yesterday afternoon scores of Bay Ridge parents and their children [most from local PS 185] converged on neighborhood cell phone retailer, Verizon Wireless, to demand the corporate telecom giant remove the 10 existing cell phone receivers already placed atop 8701 Ridge Boulevard; while calling on local lawmakers to institute legislation that puts tighter controls on where this equipment can be placed – which they insist be nowhere near schools.

The protest, consisting largely of elected officials, parents with their children and homemade signs in tow (a veritable Ragamuffin G-8 protest) drew significant crowds, due in no small part to an aggressive information drop by organizers.

The march and ensuing picket line remained peaceful with no reports of injuries or arrests.

Verizon’s largely minimum wage, seasonal to temporary workers remained unphased – if just a bit confused by yesterday’s protest…

One employee overheard saying: [I only sell phones, I don't make the towers... free phone if you sign up for an extra line.]

PTA 185 – Verizon Wireless 24/7

Our comment section erupted virtually overnight to reveal two warriors in a fight that has wildly exceeded all expectations.

In one corner, backed by legendary cornerman Vinny ‘finish your dinner or you get no dessert‘ Gentile, PTA heavyweight contenders hailing from local PS 185 are looking for a brawl this afternoon, in what’s likely to be a monumental display of powershots and vicious upstairs/downstairs combinations with formidable opponent, heavyweight champion – Verizon Wireless Communications.

Verizon Wireless – backed by local Bay Ridge veteran parent skeptics who believe that this match-up is nothing short of a bloodbath and PTA 185 shouldn’t even be in the ring – are likely to play a different game than the one their opponent’s trained for.

Armed with slightly higher accuracy and speed, Verizon will likely play keep-away and maximize their speed advantage – rather than get suckered into an all out brawl.

Given Verizon’s record, it’s likely they will control the pace of this event, as Vinny ‘eat your broccoli or you don’t go out to play‘ Gentile’s youth and exuberance may not be quite enough to outmatch the cellular giant.

Will PTA 185 be stopped before they even get out of the corner ?

Or, is Verizon Wireless set-up to go down hard?

Depending who you ask, the smart money seems to be with the champ…

This is dumb, there is still no good science that shows any harm from radio transmissions at these power levels and distances.

If they can’t come up with some good science to show that holding a cell phone transmitter inches from your brain causes problems, putting the other side if the signal across the street isn’t going to harm anyone.

why don’t these moms go out and do something useful like get jobs to help support their addiction to big hair and range rovers!!!!!

In response to Matthew: Why risk it? The “official” bodies all seem to be taking the position that the evidence is inconclusive. (ACS, “No human studies have have focused specifically on cellular phone towers”)In other words, they don’t know if there are longterm effects as result of continuous exposure to a low level electromagnetic field. Verizon workers are not allowed to be on the rooftop with the equipment for more than 20 minutes. The general public shouldn’t be exposed for more than 4 minutes. Our children are in a classroom directly facing the antenna for 6 hours on a daily basis.

The BioInitiative Report published on August 31, 2007 by 14 independent scientists, public health and public policy experts is alarmed at the potential health risks caused by radio frequency emissions and concludes that the existing standards for public safety are inadequate to protect public health. www.bioinitiative.org.

So Matthew, do you want your child or grandchild to spend the next six years in that building?

To all you assholes who oppose the march, saying the women are wasting their time, and that the cell phone towers are harmless, let me ask you a question…Do any of you have kids? If you do, do you care about them? I bet the answer to one or both is NO. I bet you all wouldn’t have the ‘jumblies’ to sit near those towers for a few hours a day, every day. Besides, you are all probably sitting in your safe little dark rooms blogging all day…if nothing else….HANDS UP ON THE KEYBOARD NOW!

To the parent who ‘cares’ about their child: Have you even attended the PTA meetings? For if you did, you would know that a considerable amount of evidence to show that we are hardly charging windmills. Yes, there is conflicting evidence (from the FCC…hmmm), but we have properly researched and found significant evidence to warrant the action we are taking. Our action has been very well planned, as a result a total of seven schools have become involved. Hardly chasing shadows. It is possible that some fear may be instilled among the students, but its better than remaining mum. But don’t worry we will fight to protect your daughter while you sit in your BarcoLounger playing ‘armchair quarterback.’ Eat some more chips and do a little research yourself.

Bay Ridge vs. cell towers… round 2

Parents of students at PS185, concerned over the installation of cell phone towers atop neighboring 8701 Ridge Boulevard, will hold a protest march Thursday afternoon at 2:30pm.

The march kicks off from PS185, up to the Verizon cellphone store on 5th ave and 86th street where parents will establish a picket line.

Parents are demanding Verizon remove the equipment – which has grown from 4 towers to more than 8 since January and currently face directly into classrooms and a refurbished rooftop play area – while calling on local officials to institute tighter controls over the future placement of such equipment.

At a Thursday PTA meeting, State Senator Marty Golden revived talk of a bill he first proposed three years ago, when Sprint/Nextel was considering placing similar equipment adjacent to St. Anselm’s school, banning cell tower construction within 500 ft of schools .

The bill was never passed, but the negative PR from that campaign was enough to get Sprint to squash their plans.

Complicating efforts this time around is the fact the equipment is already installed, lessening the likelihood anything will be removed. However, at that same PTA meeting, Councilman Gentile reports Verizon is cooperating with the community by offering to reposition the existing receivers so they are not facing the school.

A solution that doesn’t allay fears of parents like Evans and Maryann Kotsis, Dolores Lozupone who maintain that given the saturation of this equipment in relation to the density of schools and childcare facilities in it’s vicinity – anythign less than full removal of the equipment and a moratorium on its construction will not suffice.

Right now, under the Federal Telecommunication’s Act of 1996, local community boards have no oversight authority – although Councilman Gentile is working on a bill that would force the DOB and contractors to put the community on notice whenever permits for this kind of work are filed.

As of now, the DOB and contractors are only required to deal amongst themselves – and the building owner.

Is Golden Bay Ridge’s own ‘white whale?’

Could local State Senator Marty Golden possibly be New York’s most elusive, and brazen scofflaw since Seinfeld’s own ‘white whale‘ evaded a one-eyed upper west side traffic cop back in 1995?

Golden’s signature white ‘whale’ of a Cadillac Escalade, clearly identified by its plates and placard on the front dash, was spotted parked smack dab in a bus stop [it's proximity to the hydrant, debatable] across the street from the senator’s gym, Harbor Fitness.

This is the 3rd consecutive week Golden’s boat has been spied commandeering this otherwise illegal spot.

In the interest of fairness, although not pictured, our own local Councilman Vinny Gentile has been regularly seen availing himself of the same considerations his placard allows, by parking in the bus stop out front of his 3rd avenue constituent offices.

However, the argument can be made that while actually at his office, he’s [theoretically] on official constituent business…

Whereas Golden – unless taking a steam with Vito Fossella, Bob Capano, and the Commissioner of the NYSDOH on Victory Memorial Hospital – is likely, not.

The violation for parking or idling in a bus stop stands at a cool 155 dollars, folks.
