4th avenue car wash site of new school construciton
The old 4th avenue brushless car wash, between 88th and 89th street, could potentially be the site of the School Construction Authority’s new building project – according to an article in this week’s Courier Life.
Plans for the proposed pre-k to 5 school would take over the car wash, the car stereo dealer and a rear parking lot.
The Department of Education, while confirming interest in those properties, is mum on how far along they are to inking a deal.
“They have to do feasibility studies and environmental studies. They’re moving along. It seems to be so far, so good. There seem to be no issues,” Laurie Windsor, president of School District 20’s Community Education Council, told the Courier.
Just last month, the SCA threatened to exercise eminent domain over a string of 5th avenue businesses across the street from P.S. 104, between 91st and 92nd street – which included Windows We Are, a soon-to be Law Office and a veterinary practice.
The car wash in question closed sometime last year, after it’s original operator’s lease expired and the owner of the property raised his rent to 20K per month (that’s a lot of pine scented air fresheners) and the car stereo place hasn’t seen a customer since big hair, and Styx.
